» JohnCrandall - Did the Brother Jonathon achieve 60mph?

The Brother Jonathon is among one of the earliest American built locomotives. It is commemorated on a postage stamp by the U.S. Post Office. Their brief description states that it achieved 60mph. To me this seems like far too early a date for such a speed, but I haven't found anything so far to confirm or deny that claim. If you know anything about it, please share your knowledge.

Interestingly enough despite a fair amount of looking around. I still don't have a definitive answer to this question. However, I did find that the American No. 1 locomotive built in the same year by Jervis was recorded to have a reasonably sustainable top speed of 60mph. Which increases the possibilty to my mind that that 60 for the Brother Jonathon was possible.
